Went to the Robert Capa exhibition at the Barbican in London at the weekend. Seeing the images of the Spanish Civil War and D-Day up-close, with the addition of the notes he made is amazing. It's just a shame that the most of the D-Day images perished!

Parcel just delivered containing:
British greatcoat - size 3 (1952 but looks the part, has black plastic buttons which I will either paint 'brass' or replace with GS buttons or maybe even leather 'football' buttons which were a popular addition for the nobs)
Gas mask bag - 1942 in factory condition (what's the piece of string in the little outer pocket for?)
Small pack with shoulder strap - 1943, factory condition
The piece of string is to fasten round you when mask bag is worn at the ready on your chest. It loops round the little metal disc on the other side to secure it.
There's two ways of wearing it... I'll show you next time I see you... if you have it with you then.

Oooh, theres a little pocket with a bit of string attached inside too - guess we will have something to talk about at the fair Yith!

A pocket? I guess that makes it MkVII??? It should be stamped with that somewhere.
BTW, the ladies used these for handbags... oh and of course Indiana Jones... (though strangely he did it before they were made.)

Ah yes, it's Mk VII with lots of pockets including an internal pouch with string attached (which I have decided will have car keys attached for civvi use or a BFG bodging stick attached for in-game use!)
i got a ressy bag a few years ago, and in the sleeve pocket there was 3 pairs of those press stud dessert dust goggles. result.
